At Lanphier LLP, we believe that billing by the clock is an outdated way to serve clients. The traditional hourly billing model creates a perverse incentive: the more time a firm spends on your work, the more they earn. It discourages efficiency, penalizes complexity, and -- worst of all -- it makes clients hesitate to pick up the phone because they are worried about the meter running.

We have rejected that model entirely. Our pricing is transparent, predictable, and designed to align our interests with yours. When we save you time, find you a better strategy, or resolve a problem efficiently, we both win.

New Client Advisory Services

Every client relationship begins with our New Client Advisory Services (NCAS) engagement. This is a one-time onboarding fee that covers the comprehensive process of reviewing your prior returns, assessing your financial situation, identifying opportunities, and developing a forward-looking strategy.

The NCAS fee is determined based on the scope and complexity of your situation. During your initial consultation, we will provide a clear, upfront quote so you know exactly what to expect before committing. There are no hidden fees and no surprises.

Maintenance Agreements

Once onboarding is complete, every client transitions to an annual Maintenance Agreement. This is the ongoing relationship through which all of our services are delivered -- tax preparation, advisory, planning, accounting (where applicable), and year-round communication.

Maintenance Agreements are structured as follows:

  • A flat annual cost determined by the scope of services
  • Payable in convenient monthly installments
  • Covers all agreed-upon tax, advisory, and accounting services
  • Includes year-round access to your dedicated team
  • No per-call, per-email, or per-hour charges

This structure means you always know what you will pay. There is no anxiety about reaching out with questions, no surprise invoices at the end of the engagement, and no complicated time-tracking calculations on your bill. Your fee is based on the value and scope of the work we provide -- not the number of hours it takes us.

Why We Do Not Bill by the Hour

Hourly billing creates the wrong incentives for both the firm and the client. It rewards inefficiency, discourages proactive communication, and turns every client interaction into a billable event. That is not the kind of relationship we want to have with our clients.
